Following the conclusion of the America’s Challenge last week, the World Curling Federation has sent confirmation to the Guyana Curling Federation of its promotion from provisional member association to full member status.
The America’s Challenge was the second World event where Guyana had a team following the World Mixed Doubles earlier this year in Sweden.
This, combined with the attendance of the Guyana Curling Federation at two Annual General Assemblies, the last being in Budapest in September, confirmed Guyana’s status as a full member.
Since the establishment of the Federation in 2016, the Guyana has achieved many milestones, and this is the latest achievement to be proud of, the Federation said.
General Secretary of the Guyana Curling Federation and Guyana’s leading male player, Ray Farid Husain, reacted to the news on Monday.
He told News Room: “We are ecstatic to have achieved full membership in the World Curling Federation, and for what we have achieved in the past year. Full membership now gives us credibility not only within the Curling community, but also in Guyana within the Guyana Olympic Association’s family of sport federations. We hope this will lead to increased support for our athletes and the growth of the sport in Guyana.”
