Diamond Mineral Water Indoor hockey tips off Wednesday

Top local and foreign teams will hit the turf from Wednesday (November 28) when the annual Diamond Mineral Water International Indoor Hockey tournament tips off at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Teams from Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago will compete for top honours in the three categories during the November 28 to December 2 tournament at the country’s premier indoor facility.

Looking to keep the trophies in Guyana are local sides Old Fort, Hikers, Georgetown Cricket Club and Saints.

The foreign teams are Queen’s Park, Shacar, Ventures, Mags, Fatima and Carib. The categories are Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Over-35.

In the Men’s competition, the participating teams are Pepsi Hikers, Old Fort, Bounty GCC, Saints, Queen’s Park and Shacar.

In the Women’s segment, GBTI GCC, Woodpecker Hikers, Old Fort, Saints, Ventures and Mags will do battle.

The Over-35 category would attract rivalry from Antonio’s Hickers, GCC Vintage, Old Old Fort, Queen’s Park, Fatima and Carib.

Queen’s Park won the Men’s competition in 2017, while Pizza Hut GCC was the top Women’s team and Queen’s Park topped the Over-35 category.

Five games, involving all local teams, will tip off the action on Thursday, with GBTI GCC and Saints starting the competition with a Women’s game at 17:30h.

Games would continue until Sunday in the Guyana Hockey Board-organised competition, sponsored by Diamond Mineral Water, ExxonMobil and Stag Beer.
