Homes of two teachers burglarised; three nabbed with stolen items

The Police early Wednesday morning nabbed three men during a stop and search operation and placed them in custody after it was found they had stolen property of two teachers from Canal #1 Polder, West Bank Demerara.

One of the two teachers is a head teacher.

The vehicle with the men was stopped at around 03:30hrs Wednesday by a Police team commanded by a Sergeant; they were conducting a stop and search exercise on the Meer-Zorgen Public Road, West Bank Demerara, just off of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

Police in a statement said they searched a yellow wagon motorcar, the driver and two occupants (all males).

A laptop, ear-pieces, four cellular phones, an Amazon tablet, an assortment of jewellery, a Guyana Passport, local and foreign currencies and other items were found in the vehicle.

“The vehicle and suspects were escorted to the nearby La-Grange Police Station where minutes later, two reports of breakages in the Canal # 1 Polder, West Bank Demerara were reported and the victims, both female educators, positively identified all of the aforementioned items as their property,” Police stated.

The suspects who have all given several addresses are assisting with the investigations.

Police headquarters said the regular presence of the police on the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge has been very successful since its inception and a number of persons were arrested and charged with guns and ammunition possession, and other offences.

There has also been a decrease in serious crimes in the West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo Region as a result of the above posture, Police stated.
