Journalist in custody for shooting man


Popular news reporter attached to HGP Nightly News, Travis Chase is reportedly in police custody assisting with investigations after he shot a man who attacked him in the wee hours of Sunday.

Police Headquarters revealed that Chase arrived at De Abreau Street, Newtown Kitty at around 04:30hrs to drop home his girlfriend when he noticed a man in front of the yard.

It is claimed by Chase that he approached the man, identified as 28-year-old Jimmy Ramgobin, who attacked and hurled bottles at him [Chase].

Police said that Chase, who is a licensed firearm holder, took “evasive action and discharged his weapon at the victim who was struck once,” to the lower right leg.

Ramgobin, who Police said has no fixed place of abode, is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

“Investigators have obtained statements in support of the suspect [Chase] who is a journalist; his firearm has been lodged and he is assisting with the investigation,” Police Headquarters said.
