Woman crushed to death on East Bank road


A 27-year-old truck driver of Waller’s Delight, West Coast Demerara, is in police custody after he struck down and killed a 45-year-old woman on the Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) Saturday at around 18:30hrs.

The body of Shondell Sparrock remained on the roadway covered with a tarpaulin for quite some time before she was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said that the driver of motor lorry GMM 1121, Avenash Rudradeo was negotiating a left turn into the Bagotstown Public Road western carriageway from the Demerara Harbour Bridge when he struck down Sparrock who was crossing the road from east to west.

The woman resided at Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara and was employed as a Clerical Worker at National Hardware Ltd.

The truck driver tested negative for alcohol and remains in police custody.
