Plaisance mother of 3 charged with husband’s murder
With tears streaming down her face, 25-year-old Melissa Playter stood before Magistrate Alisha George, charged with the murder of her reputed husband, Victor Roberts, 38.
She appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court Wednesday – three days after the murder – and was not required to plead to the charge.
It is alleged that on December 2, 2018, at Lot 41 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, she stabbed the man to death.
The mother of three did not have legal representation and was remanded to prison until January 17, 2019.
Roberts was the father of one of the suspect’s three children and they managed a grocery shop in the lower flat of the apartment building.
Police reported that the couple was involved in a heated argument at the home when Playter allegedly stabbed the man once in the left side chest with a knife.
Residents in the area told News Room that the woman suffered years of physical abuse at the hands of the man and it was no different on the day in question.
Residents claim that the accused was merely defending herself when the murder occurred.
