Northern Rangers, GFC to battle for Turbo football title

Northern Rangers and the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) will meet in the final of the second Turbo Football Tournament after contrasting victories in the semi-finals at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

From being booted in the first round of the 2017 edition of the straight knock-out tournament, the youthful Northern Rangers unit are playing a dream tournament, which sets the stage for an exciting finale on Wednesday, December 12.

Their entrance to the final required long legs and nerves since the winner was decided via a penalty shootout due to their feisty clash with Santos FC ended 1-1 after extra time.

On the score sheet for Rangers was Nigel Denny, who found the equaliser after Orin Yard put Santos ahead in the 16th minute.

In the first semi-final, former Elite League unit, GFC, played a close to perfect match to dispose of Mahaica Determinators 2-0. Goals were accounted in the first half from Daniel Ross in the 11th and Ralph Paris in the 32nd.

In the second half, the Bourda unit had numerous chances to extend their lead, but the finishing finesse was missing. Paris told News Room Sport they need to work on “playing their own game” in order to walk away with the $800,000 purse.

While the final night action from 21:00h would be the highlight for fans, Mahaica and Santos engaging in the battle for third place should be invigorating with the winner pocketing $200,000.

That match commences at 19:00h.
