An 11- month old baby on Tuesday drowned at Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to police information, the infant Alvin Matthew was at home with his mother, Parbattie Mathew and other siblings in the lowerflat of their two storey home when he crawled outside unnoticed.
He was later found face down in a drain located next to the house. The drain is said to be approximately 10 ft wide by 3 ft deep.
The toddler was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The incident occurred at about 11:00hrs.
No marks of violence were seen on the exposed parts of his body.
The body is presently at the Mahaicony Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
