Young Biker killed in Bagotville accident, friend seriously injured

A 19-year-old Bagotville, West Bank Demerara boy was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital Wednesday night and his friend is in a serious condition after they collided head-on with a hire car.


Dead is Dan Batson while his friend – the pillion rider – 20-year-old Trevon Callender, also of Bagotville, is in a serious condition at the said hospital.

Police said the young men were riding motorcycle CJ 2217 without headlamps at around 8:30pm south on the western side of the Bagotville Public Road at a fast rate of speed when they collided with motorcar HC 3870, which was heading in the opposite direction.

News Room understands that the driver of the car, 24-year-old Enon Bourne, told Police that he saw the motorcyclist and applied brakes between 20 to 25 feet away, but the young men still crashed into him.

As a result, the motorcycle ended up on the western end of the road while Batson and his friend landed on the opposite side.

They were both picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the hospital.

The driver of the car, who was taken into custody, was tested negative for alcohol in his system.
