A 24-year-old Mason was on Monday remanded to prison by Senior Magistrate Faith McGusty for armed robbery.

Tajnaught Ramkissoon of Grove, East Bank Demerara denied that on December 15, 2018, at Jimbo Bridge, Grove, he robbed Ramesh Seenarine of a $32,000 cell phone and $57,000 cash while armed with a knife.

Police Prosecutor Ceon Blackman told the court that on the day in question, Seenarine had just returned from the interior and was trying to make contact with his relatives.

The victim saw Ramkissoon and asked for directions. After giving the directions, Ramkissoon asked Seenarine for $200.

The court was told that as Seenarine reached into his pocket for the money, Ramkissoon placed a knife to his head and relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge.

The prosecutor was opposed to Ramkissoon being granted bail on the grounds that he was positively pointed out by the victim during an identification parade.

Magistrate McGusty remanded Ramkissoon to prison until January 7, 2019, when the matter is expected to be called at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
