GFF/ExxonMobil International Futsal kicks off Thursday

Eight teams will commence battle on Thursday (December 27, 2018) when the inaugural Guyana Football Federation’s ExxonMobil International Futsal Festival kicks off at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The five-day tournament, which is being held in partnership with the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, will feature teams from Guyana and overseas.

The teams, which include Morvant Caledonia United from Trinidad and Tobago, ZV All-Stars from Suriname, and a São Paulo selection from Brazil, will be placed in two groups.

The local participating teams are a national selection, East Coast All-Stars, Linden All-Stars, Georgetown All-Stars and West Demerara All-Stars.

The festival will kick off with six matches that will be played between 18:00h and midnight with each match being played on the hour culminating with the final match at 23:00h.

Meanwhile, the tournament continues to receive corporate backing with Bakewell being the latest entity to offer support. Collecting on behalf of the organisers was Guyana Football Federation’s president Wayne Forde.

New GPC Inc. has also embraced the tournament, offering support in the form of printing tickets and invitations, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash, which will go towards the airfare for the visiting teams.

The winning team will pocket $1.2 million, while the losing finalist will receive half that amount. Third will get $300,000 and fourth $100,000. Admission to the event will be $1,000.
