Annai Secondary hammered Annandale Secondary 6-0, but it still was not enough to pip the visiting Shiva Boys Hindu College to the KFC Goodwill Football Title at the weekend at the Ministry of Education ground.
Prior to the final round on Saturday, there was a spilt between them and Annai as to who could take the title, but Shiva would need to lose.
The Trinis pipped Christianburg Wismar Secondary 2-1. Stevon Thomas opened the score sheets in the 39th minute, before Linden brought it level in the 60th. Annai would have been hoping for another goal to come off the boot of a Lindener, but Gessiah Bishop returned the lead to Shiva Boys in the 81st.
In the earlier match, Annai’s 6-0 rout of Annandale was built on Niaz Mohamed’s double (28th, 55th) Junior Rodrigues (68th) and Nadison Daniels (80th). They were also helped by two own goals.
At the end of the three-day tournament, Annandale occupied the bottom spot with no points, having played winless, while Linden finished third with one victory.
The best goalkeeper award went to Leston Smith from Annai, most goals (four) went to Niaz Mohamed of Annai and Trinidad’s Nikel Rawlings was the Most Valuable Player.
Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca, expressed pleasure in the tournament executing its objective of allowing local school teams to gauge themselves against regional competition.
