High tide floods some homes on Wakenaam Island

Some 14 households are affected following high tide which occurred between 08:30hrs and 10:00hrs today on Wakenaam Island.

News Room understands that the door of the koker at Maria’s Pleasure, Wakenaam Island broke and caused flooding to the immediate areas with about 12 inches of water.

Reports indicate that there is no immediate threat to livestock and farmlands. The koker was last repaired in April 2018.

Workers from the Sea Defense and Region No 3 are presently on the ground with machinery conducting repairs before the next tide.
