APNU rep. replaces AFC’s Charrandass Persaud in National Assembly
Barbara Patricia Pilgrim was Thursday sworn in as a Member of Parliament, representing the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Region 6 (East Berbice – Corentyne).
Pilgrim took the oath in the presence of Speaker Dr Barton Scotland and Government MPs.
She replaces Charrandass Persaud, who was expelled by the Alliance For Change (AFC) – the smaller party in the coalition Government – after he defected and voted with the Opposition in favour of a No-Confidence motion against the Government.
Pilgrim’s appointment to the National Assembly is a departure from Cummingsburg agreement between the APNU and the AFC since the AFC is to have 12 seats in the House.
