Bandits steal soda, plucked chickens from Berbice businessman

A businessman who operates the Gabbar Halal Chicken Centre at Clifton, East Berbice Corentyne, was on Thursday morning robbed of $18,000 cash, three plucked chickens and several bottles of soda.

Doodnauth Takapersaud said he was awoken at around 01:00hrs after hearing unusual sounds at his business place which is located on the lower flat of the house.

Takapersaud told News Room he ventured out and noticed the lights were off and as he got closer, he noticed the door was opened.

It was then he discovered the items missing.

The businessman he met police officers on the road, who had just left a robbery scene a village away at John’s Settlement, East Berbice Corentyne.

The Policemen commenced a search for the bandits but were not successful.

The businessman noted just three weeks ago his business was robbed of $183,000 in cash, energy drinks, and about 18 plucked chickens.

The Berbice area has seen in increased in several armed robberies recently.

Victims and residents have expressed fear and are calling on the Police to step up their patrols in communities around the Corentyne area.
