Young cyclist dies after New Year’s Day accident

A pedal cyclist who was struck down on the Coldingen Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on New Year’s Day, succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Friday.

News Room understands that 22-year-old Rodwell Emanuel James of 1315 Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD was attempting to cross the road from south to north on his bicycle when he was struck down by motorcar PNN 7862, driven by a 28-year-old male of Lusignan Pasture, ECD.

The motorcar subsequently came to a halt after it crashed into a utility pole.

James was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed at about 02:00hrs on Friday.

The driver, who was also admitted at the hospital and discharged on Thursday, was taken into custody on Friday.

The post-mortem is scheduled for next Monday.
