Police are on the hunt for three bandits who broke into the office of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) at Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara and carted off with a metal safe containing a sum of cash after midnight on Monday.

Police Headquarters revealed that the bandits attacked the two female security guards on duty, relieved them of a service revolver with six rounds and a cellular phone.

The bandits then reportedly took the guards to the back of the building, bound their hands and feet and returned only the weapon to them.

Police did not reveal how much cash was in the safe as investigations continue
