Powerlifting AGM set for January 19

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) will host its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, January 19 with the main aim of electing new officer bearers. The meeting will be staged at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue, commencing 09:00h.

On the agenda will be the renewal of Affiliation; Review of 2017 AGM Minutes; President’s Report for 2018; General Secretary’s Report for 2018; Treasurer’s Report for 2018; Election of 2019 Office Bearers and any other business deemed necessary.

According to Public Relations Officer, Runita White: “Anyone willing to place their vote for the 2019 office bearers will have to pay the annual federation dues of GYD$5,000”. She further encouraged that all members attend for full participation.

The current officer bearers include President- Ed Caesar, Vice-President- Nadina Taharally, General Secretary- Andrea Smith, Treasurer- Colin Andrews, PRO/Organisation Secretary- Runita White and Committee Members- David Gomes, Erwyn Smith and Martin Webster.

It is understood, no one has made an official challenge to the positions, but nominations can be made on the day of the elections.

In giving a synopsis of 2018, White, who herself is a competitor, explained it was a good year for the sport, despite finding funds to send athletes overseas being a major challenge.

The highlight undoubtedly was team Guyana winning six gold medals and three bronze at the 16th Annual IPF/NAPF North American Regional Powerlifting Championship in Mexico City in August.
