The third phase of the construction of the Linden Synthetic track will commence in a matter of days since the issues that resulted in an unwarranted delay have been sorted out.

Minister of Social Cohesion, with responsibility for Sport, Dr. George Norton, told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that there were some issues with the centre identified where the track will be laid, and some adjustments had to be made.

The Bayroc Community Centre Ground, Wismar, Linden, was identified as the most suitable ground for the facility to be laid. Phase three of the project includes groundwork, laying of necessary drainage pipes, curb work, asphalting and concreting where necessary. The track will have the necessary amenities for all field events while the middle will be developed into a world-class football field. Phase three is expected to take three to six months.

Phase four includes the laying of the synthetic material for an eight-lane 400-meter track. The development of the pavilion and the additional space surrounding is a project that will be scheduled for a later time.

The contract for construction of the track was signed in October and was awarded to Builders Hardware and General Supplies. The cost of construction is $179M.

Lindeners are expected to benefit from employment during the construction. No homes in the area will be affected, additional facilitation will be put in place for roadways and it is expected that the general aesthetics of Wismar, Linden, will be improved. (DPI)
