Traffic Cop struck down at Eccles

A police officer was on Wednesday afternoon injured in an accident on the Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) public road after he was struck down by a female driver.

Police Constable, Kevin Aaron who is stationed at the Providence Police Station was at the time conducting traffic duties at the location when he was struck down by motorcar PPP 5503 driven by 28-year-old Amanda Cummings of Lacytown, Georgetown.

The accident occurred at about 16:55 hrs.

According to information reaching the News Room, Aaron was standing in the center of the road, facing East and calling traffic from the Eccles Access road when he was struck down by motorcar which was exiting the said access road.

As a result of the collision, the Officer fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries about his body.

He was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away.

The driver was taken into custody and the vehicle lodged. She underwent a breathalyzer test but no trace of alcohol was detected.

A notice was served to Cummings informing her that a prosecution is being considered.
