20-Y-O remanded on charge of armed robbery

A 20 -year-old man was on Thursday refused bail by Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on an armed robbery charge and was remanded to prison.

It is alleged that Noel George, on January 9, 2019, at Croal Street, Georgetown, while being armed with a cutlass robbed Zain Angel of $70,000 cash.

George was unrepresented in Court. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh objected to the defendant being released on bail on the grounds that George has pending matters before the court and was recently charged for similar crimes.

Based on the prosecution objection, Magistrate Daly remanded George to prison until January 21, 2019.

According to reports, on the day in question Angel was walking along Croal Street when he was confronted by George, who was armed with a cutlass. It is alleged that George pointed the cutlass at Angel and demanded that the man hand over his valuables.

George, after receiving the items, made good of his escape but was later arrested by the Police and charged.
