Top performers in GuyOil School Football League rewarded

The successful staging of the inaugural GuyOil School Football League brought many budding talents to the forefront and some of the top schools and players were on Thursday rewarded for their stellar performances.

Twelve teams contested the league, which ran from October 6 to December 9, 2018, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

After 61 matches, Annandale Secondary was in the first spot with 30 points followed by Christianburg/Wismar Secondary (29 points), Lodge Secondary (27 points) and Vergenoegen in fourth on 25 points.

The price packages for the top spots were $400,000, $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively, all of which will go towards school projects.

Officials of champion school Annandale indicated they will be using their funds to develop the school ground to foster the development of new players.

Individual awards saw Makayah Smith of The Bishops’ High copping Best Goalkeeper; Tyrice Lewis of Christianburg had the most goals with 18 successful strikes and the Most Valuable Player award went to Annandale’s Omari Glasgow.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, which was held at the company’s Kitty Service Station, Jacqueline James, Marketing and Sales Manager, expressed her delight in the success and committed to further partnerships.

Co-Director of the Petra Organisation, Troy Mendonca, thanked all stakeholders, which included ANSA McAL Trading through its iCool and Smalta brands for making the tournament a success. He made an appeal for persons to be more than well-wishers and support the young talents in their endeavours.
