A 23-year-old Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara resident appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, charged with the illegal possession of counterfeit $5,000 notes.

Alston Pierce, a Technician, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on January 26, 2019, at the Stabroek Market, with intent to defraud, he had in his possession forged currency of $325,000 consisting of $5,000 bills, knowing same to be forged.

His lawyer, Eusi Anderson told the court that his client spent some time at the Juvenile Holding Centre and has not been in trouble since his release.

Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss did not object to bail but requested that conditions are attached pending further investigation.

As such, the young man was released on $200,000 bail with the condition that he report to the Brickdam Police Station every Wednesday.

The matter was adjourned until February 18, 2019.

Pierce was arrested during an intelligence-led operation by the Police.
