Two Venezuelan nationals were remanded to prison for allegedly breaking into a shop along the Kaikan River, Region Seven and stealing $1.3M worth of items.

Xavier Lopez, 24, and Nelson Perez, 25, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isccas-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and denied the joint charge when it was read to them by an interpreter.

It is alleged the duo broke into the shop of Collin Basil, and stole a cell phone, 35 pounds of silver, two haversacks, a box of Rough Rider condoms, 10 packs of food seasoning, and a quantity of Bristol cigarettes, among other items.

The two men were both unrepresented and told the court that they did not have a passport, however, they were permitted to stay in Guyana for three months.

Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss objected to bail on the grounds that the defendants have no ties to Guyana and pose a flight risk.

Magistrate Isccas-Marcus remanded the duo to prison until February 5, 2019.
