Three men, including a Venezuelan National, were remanded to prison Friday by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul for allegedly trafficking over 70 pounds of cannabis.

Siddique Karahmad, 27, of Canal #2, West Bank Demerara; Emroy Caravaio, 20, of Mabaruma and Ricardo Garcia of Venezuela, were jointly charged at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that the trio on January 31, 2019, at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, trafficked 32.05 kilograms of cannabis.

They were intercepted driving on the Vergenoegen Public Road with the suspected narcotics concealed in two black gasoline bottles.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge while Karahmad’s attorney, Marcel Bobb, pleaded for bail.

Prosecutor for the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Kunyo Sandiford told the court that the trio was under surveillance.

News Room understands that Garcia reportedly ventured from Venezuela to Guyana to purchase the illegal drugs that Caravaio supplied while Karahmad allegedly provided transportation.

They were remanded to prison until February 18, 2019.
