Bandit shot while trying to take away Policeman’s gun

A bandit on the run was shot by Police early Wednesday morning after he tried to disarm a Policeman who was trying to arrest him.

Police said Michelle Shurland of 117 ‘A’ Mandela Avenue, Georgetown was awakened about 03:00hrs by the loud sound of barking dogs and upon investigating, she discovered the back door of her house opened and saw two persons fleeing the yard.

She alerted a police mobile patrol which was in the area and the ranks, commanded by a Corporal, gave chase after the suspects were spotted in the area.

One of the suspected perpetrators managed to escape the lawmen but his accomplice, who was apprehended, tried to disarm one of the ranks of his service weapon when he was shot once in the right thigh.

The wounded suspect, of Charlestown, Georgetown is admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and is in a stable condition.

Nothing was discovered missing from the victim’s home.
