An Essequibo River man was stabbed to death during an argument over an incident that occurred in 2009, Police reported Thursday.

Dead is 32-year-old Cedric Williams, a labourer of Foulmouth Village, Essequibo River.

“Investigations revealed that Williams (deceased), the suspect and his (suspect) sister were imbibing at the landing when an argument erupted between Williams and the suspect over a criminal act the suspect committed in 2009; as a result the suspect became annoyed and fatally stabbed Williams in the neck with a knife and fled the scene,” Police headquarters stated.

The incident occurred just after midnight Wednesday.

Williams was taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival; the body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
