The local squash season will commence Tuesday evening (February 12) with the annual Bounty Farm Handicap tournament, serving off at 18:00h at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street.

A total of 44 competitors will do battle in two categories, namely Open and Category A. With each player awarded a number of plus or minus points as is usual in handicap tournaments, the field is levelled to allow the underdogs a real shot at the wins and a test of stamina and patience for the more skilful players.

Games will run each weekday 18:00h and throughout the day from Saturday, before finishing with the annual fundraising bar-b-que on Sunday February 17.

The Open category will no doubt bring some stunning performances from players like Alex Arjoon, Regan Pollard and Deje Dias in the Men’s category, with Ashley Kahlil and Taylor Fernandes being the front-runners in the Women’s division. Steven Xavier will also contend in this category.

In Category A, returning champion Michael Alphonso will be battling against an array of improved players, including Nicholas Verwey, to retain his title.

Also in Category A, Abosaide Cadogan and Kirsten Gomes will be a closely matched bout if they meet; they always manage to produce a thrilling match-up on the court.
