UG unions to protest for increase

The University of Guyana Senior Staff Association and the University of Guyana Workers’ Union plans to hold a peaceful picket exercise Tuesday in response to the administration’s declaration that the University has a deficit for 2018 and there is no more money to offer staff.

A statement from the Union and Association Monday night noted that the administration imposed “an insulting 3% and 4% increase on the University’s staff in November 2018” which the Unions protested.

Negotiations for 2018 finally began on January 8, 2019, and ended on February 1 with the administration’s letter that stated its refusal to offer any more to staff, the Unions noted.

The protesters will assemble near the old Vice Chancellery building on the Turkeyen Campus.
