A 57-year-old woman was burnt to death in her house in the wee hours of Sunday at Lot 564 Block 8 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
Dead is Yowani Sasenarine, who suffered a recent stroke and was unable to move on her own.
News Room understands that the woman shared the upper flat of the house with her 25-year-old daughter, while another daughter shared the bottom flat with her husband and three children.
According to information reaching News Room, the woman’s son-in-law Joseph Pereira was awoken to her screaming at around 2:10hrs and upon checking upstairs, he saw the fire.
The man told Police that he attempted to extinguish the blaze and save the woman but the flames were too much, however, he managed to save the other family members.
The charred body of Sasnarine was discovered on the southern side of the house in the living area.
The entire house was destroyed.
