Christianburg lads annihilate St. John’s 7-0 in Milo football

The favourites continue to make a strong start in the seventh annual Milo Schools Football tournament with Christianburg Wismar Secondary whipping St. John’s College 7-0 at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The Lindeners were led by Andre Mayers with a hat-trick; Mayers scored in the 41st, 42nd and 45th minutes. Support came from Keron Sharpe (16th), Wayne Wilson (7th), Randy Pickering (48th) and Hiram Gilkes (60th).

Vergenoegen overcame Tutorial High, via a 3-0 margin. Ronaldo Macey scored in the 16th and 44th, while Chris Smith netted in the 40th for the West Demerara side.

Friendship defeated Ann’s Grove 2-0, with Dornel McLennon (37th) and Shane Sharpe (57th) accounting for the winners’ goals.

On Saturday, Cummings Lodge edged Uitvlugt 2-1 in the feature encounter after Golden Grove had secured a comfortable 2-0 win over St. Cuthbert’s Mission. Charlestown and Tucville played to a 2-2 draw.

The tournament, which is being supported by the Ministry of Public Health, is played under the theme, ‘Stop Gender Based violence.’

The tournament runs until April 14 and the top four teams will receive $500,000, $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively to fund a project of their choice at their respective schools.
