History was created on Sunday when Guyanese Narayan Ramdhani copped gold for Kings Eagles University in the Men’s Singles competition in the final leg of the 2018-2019 Alberta College Provincial championship at the Concordia University in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Having finished the tournament as champion and the number one ranked Singles player, Ramdhani, Guyana’s number one ranked badminton player, will now represent the Province of Alberta at the National Championship in Nova Scotia in March 2019.

Ramdhani, who is currently on a five-year scholarship in Canada, was seeded number two heading into the final against Nicolas Pittman of Concordia.

It seemed as though Pittman would take the crown after the first set, which he won 21-16. However, Ramdhani stormed back to win two closely-fought games 21-17, 21-17 to take gold.

The victory was sweet revenge for Ramdhani, who only two weeks ago, lost to Pittman in the third leg of the championship at Olds College.

Earlier, Ramdhani had drawn the bye in the first round. He later defeated Luther Jurke of Olds College 21-8, 21-7 at the quarter-finals, and then topped Braxton Wong of Concordia 21-7, 21-11 at the semi-finals.

Ramdhani had also copped the Men’s Singles title in the first two tournaments, played at Kings University and NAIT College.
