    Bent Street controlling the run of play against Stabroek Ballers

    Defending champions Bent Street were tested, but they came out alive in Round-of-16 matches in the second annual Magnum Mash Cup Futsal, following the latest night of action at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

    Playing on the first night of knockout games on Tuesday, Bent Street were stretched by Stabroek Ballers, but eventually prevailed on penalties.

    The two sides played to a 1-1 draw after Bent Street benefitted from an own goal in the 10th minute and Sean Taylor equalised for Stabroek Ballers. In the penalty shootout that ensued, Bent Street won 3-2.

    Ansa McAl also benefitted from an own-goal in their 1-0 win over Buxton United, while Sophia trounced Broad Street 5-1.

    Sophia were indebted to Dwayne McLennon with a hat-trick and single strikes from Sherwin Charles and Shem Arthur, while Broad Street’s scorer was Joel McGarrell.

    Tiger Bay stopped Showstoppers 6-2 with Deon Alfred scoring thrice, Alpha Fletchman twice and Keoma Gravesande once for Tiger Bay.

    On the cards for Showstoppers early in the contest were Dexroy Adams and Trayon Bobb before the third minute of play.

    Goals from Randolph Wagner, Colin Nelson and Hubert Pedro gave Gold is Money a 3-1 success over Melanie, whose lone goal came from Rondell Assanah.

    In game six of the night, Back Circle defeated North Ruimveldt 2-0 with Stephon McLean and Selwyn Williams finding the back of the nets, while a William Europe’s strike handed Future Stars a 1-0 win over Leopold Street.

    Sparta Boss also advanced to the quarter-finals through a 3-1 thumping of North East La Penitence. Ryan Hackett with a double and Jermain Junior netted for Sparta Boss, while Keifer Brady scored for North East La Penitence.

    Quarter-final action will take place on Thursday from 20:00h at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue. Back Circle will take on Ansa McAl, Gold is Money will face Tiger Bay, Bent Street will collide with Sophia and Sparta Boss will challenge Future Stars.
