Dhanraj Rambarran, 58 and his 53-year-old wife, Khamwattie Rambarran appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan Wednesday accused of using the La Cabana Bar at Henrietta Village, Essequibo as a Brothel.

The couple was jointly charged and were represented by Attorney-at-law Bernard DaSliva; they pleaded not guilty.

It is alleged that between January 1, 2019, and February 16, 2019, at Henrietta Village, while being the owner of the La Cabana Bar, they knowingly used the building as a brothel.

Their attorney told the court that the property belongs to the man’s sister and his clients are just the tenants.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield made no objection to bail but requested that conditions are attached.

The Chief Magistrate released the couple on $10,000 bail each and the matter was transferred to the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court for February 27, 2019.

They were also ordered to report to the Anna Regina Police Station every Friday.

News Room understands that the couple was arrested by police during a raid at the La Cabana Bar for suspected trafficking in person.

Two females, who are suspected sex workers, were also taken into custody during the raid.
