LBI supermarket destroyed by fire

A supermarket located at Kersaint Park, La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara, went up in flames early Wednesday morning.

The fire started at about 5:00hrs and residents said they heard loud explosions coming from inside the building before the fire erupted.

The supermarket was owned by Chinese nationals who rented the building three years ago from a Guyanese national that operates a sawmill at the back of the property.

New Room understands that at the time the fire, three persons were home, one of whom was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital with burns about his body.

One resident said he was awoken by loud explosions and noted that firefighters took about two hours to extinguish the blaze.

The owners of the supermarket could be seen searching through the debris when News Room arrived at the scene.
