Ramdhani is King’s University Athlete-of-the-Week
It came as no surprise really that top Guyanese badminton player Narayan Ramdhani has been named Athlete-of-the-Week at King’s University in Alberta, Canada.
The title, along with the All-Conference Award, was conferred on Ramdhani at the 2018-2019 ACAC Badminton Championship banquet at Highlands Golf Club in Edmonton, AB.
Ramdhani had a bumper week, winning gold in the Men’s Singles on the final leg of the four-stage Inter-College/University Badminton championship. The performance ensured Ramdhani’s qualification to the National Championship in Nova Scotia in March.
Ramdhani was the most consistent athlete overall in the Men’s Singles, winning gold on the first two legs and silver on the third.
This is the second occasion that Ramdhani, who is on a five-year scholarship in Canada, has won the Athlete-of-the-Week title.
Gokarn Ramdhani, Narayan’s father and president of the Guyana Badminton Association, said the progress made by the young athlete is a positive development for the sport, as young badminton players can aim to emulate him in the future.
The ACAC is the governing body for intercollegiate athletics in Alberta. Its mission is to provide competitive collegiate sport experiences, promote academic achievement and be a leader of sport development in Canada.
