Woman in showdown with cops at bus park slapped with eight charges

A 22-year-old sales representative was on Monday hauled before City Magistrate Leron Daly and slapped with a series of charges including assaulting four police officers and resisting arrest.

Jenlisa Fordyce was slapped with three charges of unlawful assault for hitting police officers Welcome, Joseph and Reynolds on February 21, 2019, at the Route 32 Minibus Park, Georgetown.

Fordyce pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

It is further alleged that Fordyce obstructed Police officers Welcome and Reynolds, who were acting in the execution of their duties, by resisting arrest. Fordyce also denied the two charges.

The court also heard that on the same day in question, Fordyce had a blade in her possession and also made use of threatening behaviour towards Police Officer Joseph.  Fordyce pleaded guilty to the two charges and was fined $40,000.

Further, it is alleged that, on February 24, 2019, at the Brickdam Police Station, Fordyce assaulted Police Officer Morris, who was acting in the execution of his duties.

She was also charged for obstructing Officer Morris, who was acting in the execution of his duties.  She also pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss made no objection to bail.

As such, Magistrate Daly released Fordyce on $150,000 bail for the six charges she denied. These matters were adjourned until March 4, 2019.

According to reports on February 21, 2019, Fordyce was involved in an altercation with someone at the Route 32 minibus park.

Officer Joseph attempted to arrest Fordyce but she allegedly pulled out a sharp blade and threatened the officer.

Officer Welcome and Reynolds rushed to their colleague’s aid and were also assaulted by Fordyce as they attempted to arrest her.

Subsequently, Fordyce was arrested and while at Brickdam Police Station on February 25, 2019, she assaulted Police Officer Morris.
