U-15 CRICKET: Demerara unbeaten; Ramnauth smashes 147* for Berbice

Demerara remained unbeaten and Berbice notched up their first win of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Dave West Indian Imports and Exports Under-15 Inter-county championship on Tuesday.

After a 56-run win over Berbice in Monday’s opening round, Demerara trounced the President’s XI by 168 runs, while Berbice rebounded to beat Essequibo, who have lost both their matches, by 257 runs.

At the Lusignan ground, opener Rampertab Ramnauth was the star of the show, batting through the innings to score a magnificent 147 not out in Berbice’s massive 290-3 from the allotted 50 overs.

Ramnauth’s hundred was the first of this year’s competition, and it duly earned him the Player-of-the-Match trophy.

Tameshwar Mahadeo supported with 54 and Avishkar Persaud chipped in with 28. Bowling for Essequibo, Kivion Arokium picked up 3-33.

Essequibo, in reply, mustered 33 all out in 22.3 overs with Sarwan Bishram making 11. Bowling for Berbice, Matthew Pottaya bagged 3-12, Salim Khan 2-2 and Bashkar Dhanai 2-9.

At Everest, Demerara piled up 270-7 against the President’s XI with opener Jaden Campbell following up his first game 35 with a polished 81 before he was run out.

Zachary Jodah batted his way to 53 not out, while Mavindra Dindyal made 41 and Alvin Mohabir 21.

President’s XI managed 102 all out in 42.3 overs with Satya France making 34. Jodah picked up 3-23 to cop the Player-of-the-Match prize.

Round three of the competition will take place on Thursday (February 28) with Demerara playing Essequibo at Everest and Berbice against the President’s XI at Lusignan. Both games will start at 09:30h.
