Police operation nets drugs, stolen items, fake business stamps in Berbice

A four-hour operation by ranks of the Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch and Berbice Division Wednesday in several villages of New Amsterdam and East Canje, Berbice resulted in the arrest four persons with narcotics and items suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained along with suspected faked business stamps and documents.

At Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje a businessman was arrested with 313 grams of cannabis, Police Headquarters revealed.

A search of a house in St. John’s Street, New Amsterdam, unearthed 377 grams of cannabis and 15 grams of cocaine; three males have been taken into custody.

A male resident of Howard’s Alley, New Amsterdam was arrested after a search of his premises revealed a quantity of suspected stolen items and several suspected fake business stamps and a passport; he is assisting with the investigation.

The operations were spearheaded by a Senior Superintendent and 20 other ranks.
