Mother of four killed in Albion accident

A 44-year-old woman was killed minutes after she dropped off her grandchild to school on Thursday.

Dead is Christine Ramu of Lot 305 Chesney Front Corentyne Berbice, who was struck off her bicycle at around 12:35hrs on the Albion Public Road.

News Room understands that Ramu was clipped by the combine and dragged a short distance away when the vehicle came to a stop. A piece of her clothing was still visible on the combine.

News Room was told that the mother of four was at the time returning home after dropping her grandchild off at the Cropper Primary School.

According to reports, the Lorry bearing registration number GLL 7901 with Trailer Number TNN 6629 was transporting a combine which projected two feet on both sides of the trailer.

The vehicle was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the road and in the process, Ramu who was heading in the same direction on the southern side of the road, was struck down by the extension of the combine.

Speaking with the News Room, her youngest son, 20-year-old Trevor  Madramotoo said he saw his mother moments before she left home.

“She is always happy to pick up and take the kids to school. I was sitting down when meh auntie says mommy get knock down so I ride out with meh bike quick and see she pon the parapet barely breathing,” the distraught young man said.

With the assistance of another person, the boy picked up his mother and rushed her to the Port Mourant Hospital where she subsequently succumbed.

“The doctors tried but they say her skull damage bad.”

Ramu was described as a kind and peaceful woman.

Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force in a release said the 42- year-old driver of Number 57 Village is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
