U-15 CRICKET: Demerara and Berbice to contest final

After recording commanding wins in the final round on Thursday, Demerara and Berbice will contest the final of the Guyana Cricket Board’s Dave West Indian Imports and Exports Under-15 Inter-county competition on Saturday at the GCC ground, Bourda.

Demerara trounced Essequibo by nine wickets to win their third game on the trot, while Berbice inflicted a 47-run defeat on the President’s XI.

Unbeaten Demerara finished the preliminary phase on 24.5 points, while Berbice accumulated 16.6 from their two wins and one loss. The President’s XI, with one victory and two defeats, ended third with 6.1 points, while Essequibo, who failed to win a game, ended in the cellar position on 0.1.

At Everest, Demerara dismissed Essequibo for a paltry 82 off 46.3 overs with Aryan Doodnauth making 21. Player-of-the-Match Omari Lallbachan claimed 4-18, while Joash Charles and Thaddeous Lovell picked up 2-16 and 2-12 respectively.

Demerara then cruised to the target in 14.1 overs, losing just one wicket in the process. The in-form opener Jadon Campbell stroked 40 not out, to follow up scores of 35 and 81 in the previous games.

Mavindra Dindyal ended the chase on 22 not out.

At Lusignan, Berbice, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, posted 135 all out in 47.2 overs. Isia Thorne topscored with 34, Tameshwar Mahadeo 30 and Ravishkar Sobhai 27.

President’s XI then folded for 88 in 44.5 overs with Matthew Pottaya bagging 4-20, Thorne 2-29 and Salim Khan 2-9. Thorne was named Player-of-the-Match.

Saturday’s final will bowl off at 09:30h.
