Campbelle to lead Guyana in CWI Senior Female tournament

West Indies all-rounder Shemaine Campbelle will lead Guyana in Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) Senior Female Regional tournament, set to start on March 17, 2019.

The tournament, featuring the six traditional cricket territories, will be split in two parts- the Super50 and the T20 Blaze- and will conclude on April 3.

Campbelle, 26, has been a constant in West Indies Female side since 2009. The Berbician right-hander, who has appeared in 77 ODIs and 91 T20Is, will have Akaze Thompson as her deputy.

The squad, which was selected based on performances in the recently concluded Inter-county competition, also includes seasoned campaigners Tremayne Smartt and Erva Giddings.

The participating teams in the tournament are Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago and Windward Islands.

Matches would be played at the National Stadium, Everest, Georgetown Cricket Club and Enmore Community Centre ground.

SQUAD: Shemaine Campbelle (Captain), Akaze Thompson (Vice-captain), Tremayne Smartt, Erva Giddings, Sheneta Grimmond, Plaffiana Millington, Lashuna Toussaint, Shebika Gajnabi, Cherry Ann Frazer, Mandy Mangru, Kaysia Schultz, Melanie Henry, Lafona Gilgeous, and Afruica Gentle.

Six standby players have also been named and they are Shemika Edward, Heema Singh, Subrina Munroe, Marian Samaroo, Lisa Charles and Dian Prahalad.

Carol Nurse is Manager and Bharrat Mangru the Coach. The players will begin a period of encampment on March 11.
