The National Sports Commission on Thursday launched the Cheddi Jagan Inter-School Indoor Windball cricket competition for boys and girls. While physical education remains paramount, the Commission wants students to build better relationships.

Director of Sport, Christopher Jones, delivering the main remarks, noted how tournaments like these can foster the development of bonds among students of varying backgrounds.

“These programmes are to bring young people together from various backgrounds, from various schools to foster cohesion in a country you must give recognition to everyone’s varying background and diversity,” Jones related.

He added, “In bringing about social cohesion we recognise the easiest way this could be done is through sports.”

The tournament caters for 15 schools from districts on the East Coast and East Bank Demerara, Georgetown and Region Three.  The tournament has four playing days and concludes on Sunday (March 10) at the National Gymnasium.
