Guyanese badminton prodigy Narayan Ramdhani made another huge impact on the Canadian circuit, copping individual bronze and team gold at the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Badminton Championships in Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Nova Scotia, Canada, at the weekend.

After his impressive showing in the four-day event, Ramdhani, Guyana’s leading player in the sport, is now ranked number three in Canada, number one in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and number one in King’s University Eagles Badminton Team.

Playing for King’s University in the individual competition- the Men’s Singles, Ramdhani was able to win three matches and lose two in the round-robin playoff round, making it to the semi-finals.

In the semi-final match, Ramdhani lost to Nicholas Pittman of Concordia 17-21, 23-21, 12-21, but rebounded to defeat Yuge Zeng in the third/fourth place playoff 21-15, 21-13 to take the bronze medal. Zeng, last year’s silver medallist, had not dropped a match during the round-robin playoff.

In the Team Championship, it was Ramdhani’s victory over Ramnish Kumar of Humber College that handed King’s University the gold medal. He defeated Kumar 21-13, 16-21, 21-11 to spur his team to championship honours.

“This is an extremely great accomplishment for Narayan with his never-ending consistent performance throughout the years. We thank all who supported him and reach out to all who should be supporting him,” the Guyana Badminton Association said in a statement on Sunday.
