All the talk about the drag strip extension at South Dakota Circuit would now morph into action, following confirmation of a partnership that could potentially change the dynamics of this format of the sport.

President of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC), Rameez Mohamed, on Tuesday night confirmed to News Room Sport that the drag strip would now be extended to a full quarter mile from its current distance of 1,000ft.

Local business establishment, Mohamed’s Enterprise, the base of Team Mohamed’s band of drag racers and bikers, will fund the extension.

“Thanks to Mohamed’s Enterprise for their continued support,” Mohamed said.

The GMR&SC head explained that the end of the current track “has a huge drop and for the high-powered car reaching that speed and dropping off would be dangerous.”

It is understood the club is hoping to get the extension done in time for the opening round of the Drag Racing Championship, set for March 24. Work is also ongoing on the launch pad.

As they have been over the years, Team Mohamed’s will be a huge attraction at the upcoming event with the acquisition of a high-powered EKanoo Nissan GTR set to make its debut at South Dakota.

This is the third GTR owned by the private racing team.
