Brentmol Schultz, a 41-year-old taxi driver was remanded to prison Monday by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he was allegedly caught with over four pounds of cannabis in a haversack.

Schultz pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on March 7, 2019, at Ituni Road, Upper Berbice, he had 1923 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Defence attorney, Damien Da Silva told the court that his client was transporting two passengers when he was intercepted by police at the Ituni checkpoint.

Da Sliva explained that the illegal drugs were not found in the possession of his client.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, who objected to bail, told the court that the cannabis was found in two compressed parcels inside a haversack that Schultz claimed ownership of.

The Chief Magistrate remanded Schultz to prison and transferred the matter to the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court for April 5, 2019.
