Competitive basketball returns to the Burnham Hard Court on Middle and Carmichael Streets tonight (Friday) when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) hosts its first tournament of 2019 with support from the Guyana Lottery Company’s sports betting platform, Let’s Bet Sports.

GABA is sponsoring the six-team Under-23 division knockout, while Let’s Bet Sports is the title sponsor of the First and Second Divisions.

The Under-23 division, which begins tonight, will conclude on Sunday evening. This evening’s fixtures will pit Kobras taking Eagles in the first match at 18:30h, while the University of Guyana will clash with Sonics in the second game at 20:30h.

On Saturday, Pacesetters will play the winners of Friday’s first match at 18:30h, while the winner of Friday’s feature game will play Plaisance Guardians in Saturday’s second game at 20:30h.

For the Second Division, it will be a five-team single elimination with Sonics and Vikings trashing it out for a stake in the ‘final four’, which has Guardians, Pacesetters and Eagles already in the semi-final stage.

Their leg of the tournament starts on March 19 alongside the First Division and will run for seven days. However, the most senior division will see eight teams trash it out for top honours.

According to head of GABA, Adrian Hooper, the top teams in the First and Second Divisions are set to receive cash prizes, thanks to the Guyana Lottery Company; something that was not possible in past years.
