Police are hunting for a male suspect who fatally shot a 26-year-old clothes vendor of lot 68 William Street, Kitty on Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, the police said Collis Collison was shot at around 14:45hrs at Bar Street, Albouystown by an identified male suspect.

Police investigations thus far revealed that the victim was standing on Bar Street, Albouystown when the suspect approached, shot him and fled the scene.

Collison was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital by a public-spirited citizen and died about 15:26hrs while receiving treatment.

The body is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.

Collison is known to police as he was previously remanded on charges of murder, armed robberies and possession of illegal guns and ammunition.

In 2011, Collison was remanded to prison for the murder of a Linden businessman Albert Joseph, called ‘Bolo’. He was also arraigned on two armed robbery charges. He was freed of that murder charge in November 2014.

He was also charged in 2015 for illegal possession firearms and ammunition and discharging a loaded firearm at an off-duty officer. He was however freed of this charge in 2016 due to the prosecution’s lack of evidence.

According to reports, Collison was also accused of being a part of a gang of robbers who trailed persons from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) before robbing them.
