6-Y-0 killed in accident

A 6-year-old student attached to the Eversham Primary school lost her life Tuesday afternoon after she was struck down by a hire car a short distance away from her home.

Arrianna Lowenfield of Epson Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port Mourant Hospital sometime around 16:00 hrs.

News Room understands that the child emerged from behind a lorry and walked into the path of hire car, HC 2523, driven by a 33-year-old male off # 79 Village.

Police reports disclosed that the driver had very little time to react as he was blindsided by the lorry, which was proceeding in the opposite direction.

News Room understands that the child was flung into the air as a result of the impact.

She was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the car remains in police custody and is assisting police with their investigations.

Police have since confirmed that a breathalyzer test was done and no alcohol was detected on the driver.
