West Side youth killed in accident

Police are investigating an accident that occurred on Tuesday evening on the Vreed-en-Hoop West Coast Demerara public road which claimed the life of 23-year-old Romario Wilson of Crane Housing Scheme.

Police information revealed that Wilson was driving motorcycle CJ 6784 with pillion rider, Shakeel Henry, 22, heading west when hire car HB 3989 made a sudden turn into the path of the motorcycle and collided.

News Room understands that Wilson and Henry were flung to the northern side of the road as a result of the impact; they both sustained severe head injuries.

Wilson was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in an unconscious state and was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Hospital where he died at around 2pm on Wednesday without regaining consciousness.

Henry remains hospitalised.

Police said the 39-year-old driver of the hire car from Middle Street Pouderoyen is in police custody.

EDITOR’s NOTE: Police had initially stated that the driver of the car was under the influence of alcohol, but later retracted that was not the case.
